The sun nearly came out, but not enough to light our fire. So we took the light from a candle instead, the ever-burning candle that glows through our days. The plastic covering was pealed off, and underneath it was our bonfire, safely preserved from the weekend's rains. The wind blowing, the rain falling, the fire caught and flames licked up the damp wood to the grey sky. The rain went away, and the sun peeked out again, for a spell, as we all stood spellbound by this fire on this drizzly day.
Our plates laden with burgers and salads, we ate our picnic indoors. Then chairs cleared away as the band tuned up; we danced away the afternoon.
