Night still falls early here and chases us inside for the end of our afternoon in the garden. Wide-eyed, my student orchestrated a one-man show, an endless charade of immitations and pretend, one hand became an evil claw that would grab his face, the other hand would wrench it off, then a catapulted nose that would backfire and splat on his face, requiring a grossed-out face and an exaggerated wiping off the bits on his face. A huge grin, and a laugh, then another joke in rapid succession. And then the time disappeared into the night, and it was time to clean up, to go home to the glowing houses across the grassy field.
At home in the cosy kitchen, a game of telephone for three, two giggling girls and me. A make-believe story from a travel brochure.
