A Party

Tonight we celebrated the 9 1/2 years that one of our students have been with us before she moves away to a community for adults. A room full of eager faces looked up at her grinning face as she sat at a table, flanked by huge bouquets of flowers as tiny lights twinkled in the window behind her. Many moving speeches were made, most by those who would miss her, and one by someone welcoming her to her new home. She came to this place long before I even knew such a place existed, yet I knew how much she had grown here. Her face beamed with pride in herself, the grown person she has become, supported within the warm embrace of this community.

After supper, she picked out the dances, as we clapped our hands, stomped our feet, and swung our partners round, bumping shoulders in a muddle of happiness.
