Cheonan World Dance Festival

Today we went to the Cheonan World Dance festival with a group of students who happen to be North Korean Defectors. It it a bit different to go through the small talk with a person, ask where they are from, and hear that their reply is "North Korea." It is a real place, with real people....

We wandered around the stalls of food vendors and stages with dance performers as we attempted to communicate as best as our languages would permit.

Afterwards, we went downtown for dinner. A day with a good meal is a great day, and today did not disappoint. We went to a Vietnamese/Korean place that had been recommended and had shabu shabu, thin slices of meet cooked in broth at your table which you then wrap in rice paper with minced vegetables. The second course involves adding noodles to the same pot to make soup, then finally, rice, garnish, and a scrambled egg are added to the last dregs of broth to make fried rice. Yum!

On the way home, we ran into the Cheonan World Dance Festival Parade and stopped to watch international dance performances from some obscure (and some less obscure) countries.....and we got cheese at Emart (REAL cheese, rarity in Korea)
