I was happy to not be running out the door this morning to run to the city and do as much as possible. Instead, we moseyed our way up to San Francisco in our own time, and made it just in time for Dim Sum. We always seem to find our way to the same Dim Sum restaurant and we always seem to wait forever to get their delicious cake at the end of our meal. Then always the same trek to the Chinese bakery to get Chinese donuts (filled with red bean paste - yum!) and moon cakes.
After completing the necessary route around Chinatown, we attempted to find our way to the Filbert Street Stairs, but were thwarted by a bicycle race, however, we persevered and after an amble up the steep and picturesque steps we were rewarded by a a sunny day and a clear view from the top of telegraph hill. A bit of curiosity led us down an alternate stair, which spit us back out into the bike race. The bikers zoomed around the turn as tight as a city block, every few minutes, over and over. Mesmerized. They swarmed up the straightaways, strung out around the curve humming, then melted back into the pack. We watched 17 laps of a 55 lap race but never saw the finish line or the reaction of the winner.
Later, at the bast of Lombard Street, we met swarms of tourists who had difficulty determining precisely where the sidewalk ends.
